This presentation the challenges of instabilities in horizontal producing wells. Plunger lift setpoint optimization could be improved through better detection of anomalies such as well loading, stuck plungers, surface restrictions, leaking valves, and mis-calibrated sensors. A physics engine is proposed that should be able to apply better math to setpoints, providing more accurate assessments of downhole conditions and faster issue detection. Various open/close trigger options and setpoint optimization procedures are reviewed to show how plunger cycles can be stabilized and production can be increased.
