Testing Hydraulic Tubing Anchors

Abstract

Hydraulic tubing anchors have been around for over 40 years, but a failure history associated with deep & deviated wells resulted in the anchor rarely considered as a viable option for these scenarios. However, improved technology in recent years to the hydraulic anchor have resulted in better performance and runtimes particularly for deep and deviated wells. From initial test rig results on this improved design 10 years ago, the real-world data today continues to support the improved designs. Understanding the original hydraulic anchor and the improvements, well data & analysis of the interface between the anchor and casing, along with updated case studies are presented in this paper.
