APS (Advanced Pumping Systems), Lafayette, Colorado, was contracted to
make some unique detailed measurements on pumping units. The program
objectives were to provide detailed data on pumping unit performance to
serve as a benchmark for comparing to computer program predictions. Also,
the data might indicate how to more efficiently operate and control beam
pumps.

There are six basic API Loads critical to beam pumping. These loads
interact during a complete pumping cycle. Fortunately these loads can be
measured and compared against their respective counterparts. A building
block approach which combines these basic loads aids in diagnosing operating
and design problems.

Echometer's Well Analyzer is a digital instrument for acquiring acoustic liquid level data, acoustic pressure
transient data. dynamometer information and motor power/current data with one compact electronics package.
The performance of tasks is controlled by software. A powerful notebook IBM compatible computer is used to acquire, process, store, display and analyze the data. An analog to digital converter digitizes the analog signal from the various sensors. All electronic hardware and the laptop computer are housed in a rugged waterproof
plastic case. Measurement of reservoir pressure, producing bottomhole pressure, pump performance, rod performance,
pumping unit loading and motor performance allows an operator to maximize oil production and
minimize operating costs.
